Lace Lithography is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our Software team and contribute to the development of software that interfaces with our hardware instruments.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining software applications used to control and monitor our laboratory instruments. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet both project requirements and industry standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

This list is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned as needed:

  • Travel Requirement: Periodic travel to Bergen, Norway, where the hardware systems are located, will be required. You will work on-site to ensure proper integration, testing, and performance of the hardware systems.
  • Software Development: Design, develop, and maintain software applications to control and monitor hardware using Python and LabVIEW.
  • User Interface Design: Develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and automation scripts to enhance user experience and optimize hardware performance.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physicists, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand the functionality and technical requirements of the instruments.
  • Hardware Communication: Write clean, efficient code to ensure smooth communication between hardware and software systems, particularly for data acquisition and control.
  • API Integration: Understand and use APIs provided by third-party hardware vendors to interface with their products and integrate them into our system.
  • Debugging and Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to software-hardware integration, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
  • Testing and Validation: Perform system-level testing and validation to ensure the software meets robustness, performance, and reliability standards.
  • Documentation: Assist in documenting software design, including writing user manuals, and technical notes for future reference.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with the engineering team to continuously improve software development processes by implementing best practices and optimizing workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Python for software development.
  • Experience or familiarity with C and C++, especially in software development and hardware control applications.
  • Experience or familiarity with LabVIEW programming, especially in hardware control applications.
  • Basic understanding of hardware communication protocols (e.g., UART, I2C, SPI, etc.) and experience interfacing with hardware systems.
  • Ability to understand and work with APIs provided by third-party hardware manufacturers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen interest in working on complex hardware systems.
  • Ability to efficiently debug software and troubleshoot hardware-related issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git.
