Resist Chemist

Lace Lithography

Lace Lithography

Bergen, Norway
Posted on May 30, 2025

We’re on a mission to do something really, really small. You’ll probe the science that makes it possible.

We’re looking for an experienced Resist Chemist to join us in Bergen. At Lace Lithography, we are building the next generation of lithography tools for the semiconductor industry. Our mission is simple but ambitious: enable the next 100 years of chip production. We are developing a fundamentally new approach to lithography, with atomic-level precision and groundbreaking scalability. Our tools rely not only on beamline innovation but also on cutting-edge material science - particularly in resist chemistry.

About the Role

As Resist Chemist, you’ll report to the Patterning Squad Lead, CTO and Hardware management.

Your principal expectation:

As our new resist chemist, you will be working with critical processes such as developing, synthesising, processing, and characterising resist materials for deployment across all our instruments. The work will span the entire lifecycle of resist materials, from synthesis and process formulation, to metrology and performance validation. This is a hands-on lab role with an emphasis on evaluating resist performance using advanced tools like SEM, AFM, and other surface analysis techniques.

This role is based in Bergen, and will involve regular travel between our various locations throughout the year.

What you’ll do

  • Formulate new resist systems in-house based on performance criteria and beamline compatibility.
  • Produce small- and medium-scale batches of resists according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Familiarity with lab-scale synthesis, formulation, and characterisation of organosilanes
  • Play a key role in expanding our lab facilities, having the opportunity to directly influence its design and capabilities.
  • Source and manage precursor chemicals in coordination with external partners.
  • Coordinate the receipt of precursor materials.
  • Translate research outcomes and experimental protocols into practical production processes.
  • Implement and optimise SOPs for existing and novel resists.
  • Evaluate resist performance using SEM, AFM, profilometry, and other characterisation techniques.
  • Run patterning tests on internal tools and beamlines to assess resolution, line edge roughness, and process window.
  • Document findings and feed results back into the development cycle.
  • Maintain lab safety protocols and cleanroom discipline.
  • Ensure documentation and data tracking are robust and reproducible.
  • Help develop pre- and post-exposure procedures for utilised resists

Who you are

  • MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with polymer or resist chemistry and the preparation of self-assembled monolayers.
  • Familiarity with lab-scale synthesis, formulation, and characterisation.
  • Experience using SEM and/or AFM for material analysis.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills in English.

Skill which will give you an advantage:

  • Experience working with photoresists, e-beam resists, or other radiation-sensitive materials.
  • Experience with cleanroom protocols and lithographic processing.
  • Prior work with academic-industrial technology transfer is a plus.
