Are you excited about the power of automation, AI, and smart control design in transforming operational risk? We're looking for a forward-thinking Controls Manager to strengthen our lending business by enhancing our risk and control framework, embedding efficiency, and enabling sustainable growth.
In this role, you’ll play a central part in improving how we manage operational risk, designing smart, proportionate controls that are powered by automation and AI. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to support change initiatives, drive innovation in control design, and ensure Zopa continues to operate within its risk appetite, efficiently and effectively.
A day in the life:

- Risk Framework Evolution: Help shape a modern, dynamic operational risk and control framework aligned with lending and credit analytics functions.
- Change Support: Provide risk oversight for product and business change, identifying control gaps and working cross-functionally to deliver effective solutions.
- Control Assessment & Governance: Lead risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), support control testing, and manage issue/action tracking.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work across all three lines of defence to ensure controls are understood, adopted, and deliver measurable impact.
About you:
- You’re passionate about control design, with an interest in automation and AI-first thinking.
- You have extensive experience in operational risk or controls in a regulated consumer credit environment.
- A strong communicator and collaborator, able to challenge constructively and drive consensus on risk decisions.
- Can apply a data-led, outcome-oriented approach to control effectiveness and design.
- You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments and balance structure with agility.
- Possess a good understanding of the UK regulatory environment and actively keep your knowledge current.
