Our Story
Hello there. We’re Zopa.
We started our journey back in 2005, building the first ever peer-to-peer lending company. Fast forward to 2020 and we launched Zopa Bank. A bank that listens to what our customers don’t like about finance and does the opposite. We’re redefining what it feels like to work in finance. Our vision for a new era of banking puts people front and centre — we’ve built a business that empowers everyone to aim high, every day, to move finance forward. Find out more about our fantastic offerings at Zopa.com!
We’re incredibly proud of our achievements and none of it would be possible without the amazing team here. It’s not just industry awards we’re winning, we’ve also been named in the top three UK’s Most Loved Workplaces.
If you embrace unconventional challenges, are unafraid to think differently and are driven to make an outsized impact, you’ll thrive here at Zopa, so join us, and make it count. Want to see us in action? Follow us on Instagram @zopalife
The Role
This role sits within the Data Governance Team at Zopa, forming part of the wider Data team, which itself covers multiple data aspects, from ensuring our Governance and Privacy needs are met, to providing data engineering platforms and pipelines and the data necessary to perform complex analytics.
The role itself is primarily focussed on providing considered and practical advice on data privacy matters; a secondary area of focus will be supporting the business with the continued roll out of our data governance framework.
The main aim of the role is to support the business to achieve its goals in a way that is compliant with UK GDPR and other related laws (including Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation). This is an exciting time to be joining Zopa as it continues to expand its customer baser and product offerings, and the successful candidate will be integral in helping the team shape the data privacy and governance framework.

A day in the life:

  • You will be reporting to the Data Privacy Manager and will focus on providing considered and practical advice to multiple areas of the business on data privacy matters
  • You'll act as an incident management champion, including investigating personal data breaches to understand the root cause and identifying remediation and mitigation measures
  • You would assist with Zopa’s change programme, ensuring that data privacy risks and privacy by default and design are considered
  • You would embed the data privacy culture across the business by supporting data privacy training and awareness initiatives
  • You'll up to date with latest changes in applicable legislation, industry news and guidance, and ensure data privacy documentation and records are kept up to date
  • You'll work with our Head of Data Governance to discover, manage and monitor instances of personal data in line with our policies and procedures

About you:

  • A good understanding of UK data protection laws including UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
  • Able to offer considered and practical advice to the business, at a level of appropriate detail
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective planning and organisation skills, including time management and administration
  • Previous experience of working in a financial services industry and in a data privacy, compliance or risk function
  • Able to manage resources and balance priority of scheduled and unscheduled (ad-hoc) tasks
  • An understanding of customer and employee personal data and the management of this in a enterprise environment
  • Drive and determination to learn and grow within the role

Added bonus:

  • Previously at a fintech or similar regulated environment
  • An industry recognised data privacy qualification
  • Experience of data governance is preferred, however this is not essential as training will be given
